Possible East Coast Port Strike Averted (for now)

The possible East Coast Port Strike that had been called for October 1st has been averted for now.  According to the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service, the Maritime Alliance and the International Longshoremen’s Association have extended their current contract through to December 29, 2012.  Hopefully, they will be able to use the next 90 days to come to a resolution of their issues and sign a new contract.  Both parties have acknowledged that it is in the national interest to come to an agreement and avoid any possible disruption to commerce.
